Metal Depot, Inc. opened for business In March 1993 in Orange, Texas as a distributor of metal roofing, accessories and components. The two owners, Gerald Decker and Ron Decker, along with two long-time employees, Pete Croak and Mike Fuselier, started Metal Depot in the location that had been the Decker family lumberyard since 1960.

With extensive knowledge and long-term experience in the building materials industry, we set forth to take our customer service-oriented background and apply that to a new aspect of the residential and commercial building market in our area. Metal roofing and components had not quite caught on in our area yet, but we wanted to change that. Selling asphalt shingles for over 30 years and seeing how often they have to be replaced made us want to fill a niche that had not been tapped into in our area....ever.

After three years of growing our customer base and expanding our market, it was time to start our planned expansion into areas that we currently serviced from our Orange location. In March 1996, we opened our first branch location in Jasper, Texas. Our second branch was opened in December 2003 in Silsbee, Texas. During this time, we not only added some very valuable employees but a loyal list of customers that include homeowners, contractors, municipalities as well as commercial and industrial clients.

Our manufacturing capabilities began with the purchase of a metal roofing rollformer in 1997. It produces our “Ag” panel Tex Rib™ and our industry-standard “R” Panel. A new high-speed rollformer was added in 2007 along with more trim manufacturing equipment. Each of our three locations has an on-site trim shop with computer-controlled equipment that manufactures very precise profiles in 10’ lengths. Our manufacturing plant in Orange also has equipment for producing longer lengths up to 20’.

In 1999 pre-engineered metal buildings were added to the already long list of items that Metal Depot offered to our customers. After five years of being a distributor of metal buildings, we began manufacturing them in 2004. With the addition of metal building design software and a fabrication shop, Metal Depot was off and running to design, detail and fabricate metal buildings for the residential, commercial and industrial markets.

We offer everything from the backyard workshop for our homeowners, commercial buildings for developers and mega-size warehouses for our commercial and industrial clients. We have the philosophy that our customers should not have to choose from a list of standard size buildings as if they were choosing from a fast food menu. Whatever you want, we will provide.

Metal Depot has always offered delivery to our customers for any purchase made. In 2006 we moved from making deliveries that had to be hand unloaded to purchasing a tractor/trailer rig with a piggy-back forklift. We will deliver your metal roof, carport, patio cover or pre-engineered metal building directly to your doorstep and unload it for you with our job-site forklift. Our sales force at each store can explain the pre-conditions that exist for delivering with this kind of equipment.

Starting in 1960, we have been selling building materials in our original location in Orange, Texas. Although we shifted gears in 1993 with a new look and product mix and added two more locations, we have been here for nearly 50 years offering quality building materials, metal roofing, buildings and more at very competitive prices.

During this time, we have seen our share of competitors large and small come and go, but we are still growing our company. Since starting with four people and one retail location in 1993, we have grown to three retail locations and two manufacturing facilities with over 30 employees. We will continue to grow as new products and manufacturing capabilities are added along with our planned expansions.
